New Works for Rocky Mount

I have been really excited to work on this new work. Conceived in December 2010, I've just realized some pieces that take in my love of water, seaweed/coral, cyanotypes, beach, history and process. This work is made in memorium. It is made for those persons whose anscestors lie in the middle passage. A burial ground lies between England and Barbados and this is known as the Middle Passage. There are some 2 million people who never made the journey after being captured and then placed on a boat bound from Africa to Barbados. As slaves in appalling inhumane conditions, millions died on the journey.

The new works, waterlogged, consist of cyantoypes/photograms of coral and seaweed found on the beach at Foul Bay, Barbados.

The Welcome Back Show

Last Wednesday night was the opening of the Welcome Back exhibition for Faculty and 2nd Yr MFA students at the Mason Gross Galleries, Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

This is the poster for the show...I think its great! Kudos to the person that designed it!

My pieces 'Bombs Away Dream Baby (Red, White and Blue) were featured in the main gallery. These mural sized works were originally 8 x 10 pinhole images of the Capitol Building in Washington DC. These were also originally cyanotypes but I scanned them and made one red, one white and used a white mask and the blue is the cyanotype blue. The images are 60" x 40" x 3. Thanks to the Grads for installation and especially Derek! Cheers mate!

Anothere installation view of the works with Julie Langsams handsome collages in the background and Gary Keuhn's stunning scrolls next to mine.
